Feeding back into schools

  • What do schools want from higher ed?
  • How can this dialogue be made more accessible?
A short presentation consisting of four slides outlined the basic questions and suggested possible foci points for further discussion. The two tables of participants were then asked to discuss what they would like to focus on in terms of feeding information back into schools. Both tables chose to focus on the following question(s): How can we stimulate collaboration and cooperation between pre-service/in-service education and schools? Is there any collaboration? Is there a need for a pedagogy of ICT integration? Do we then implement a pedagogy and ICT development plan? Table 1 report post discussion: What forms of collaboration exist? 1. Research partnerships & reciprocity 2. Reconceptualising what standards are neded for sccess to university 3. Discussion forum/fora ... eg, EdNa? Purposes for collaboration? 1. Graduates feed back to universities 2.Universities could be more explicit about what standards school leavers don't have. 3. Keeping up to date with digital natives. Table 2 report post discussion: Is there any/sufficient collaboration betweenTeacher Education institutions and schools? Some collaboration and implementation of an ICT pedagogy does exist. However, teacher training vs education ... inservice is linear and some gaps exist ... we need to intervene at all levels, not just at a given point in time in teacher training if we are to facilitate a change to occur ... for example, by working with student teachers; by regularly stepping back and reassessing. re-evaluating before moving forward; by supporting existing teachers with effective and 'just in time' training and development; by acknowledging and encouraging teachers who have the motivation and desire to integrate the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
